In Act II there are many motifs. The first motif was the dagger. When Macbeth was walking to Duncan's room to kill him, he envisioned a dagger. The dagger symbolizes Duncan's death because it is leading Macbeth to him, and he kills Duncan with his dagger. Another motif in this act is blood. The dagger he envisioned had blood on it. When Macbeth walks back to Lady Macbeth he still has blood on his and on his dagger. Also Lady Macbeth goes back and puts blood on the servants. Throughout the act both the dagger and blood are motifs.
this is true. the dagger represents death, and there are going to be many deaths in the play. the blood being smeared on the guards and not on lady macbeth could also symbolize that she was not going to be slain by a dagger but somehow die a different way.
