In Act II there is the obvious external conflict of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth killing King Duncan, and Lady Macbeth ordering him too. But there is a lot of internal conflict with Macbeth leading up to the murder and after. Before the murder he keeps questioning himself and feels unsure that he can go through with it. When he finally decides that he is going to go through with it, he starts seeing things. He sees a dagger and this seems to lead him and help him go through with killing Duncan. Also, he claims to hear voices of the servant when he about to kill Duncan, and voices that say Macbeth has killed sleep. These are all inklings that he is feeling extremely paranoid and guilty about killing Duncan. He fights with himself and his wife about killing Duncan. I picked the angel and devil because this is a symbol of how he was being told two things. Lady Macbeth was telling him to kill Duncan and that this was the only way he can become king, while his gut was telling him not to do it. Lady Macbeth in this case is the devil, while his gut feeling is the angel. His external conflict seems to overpower his original feelins.
I agree with the post but I also feel you did a great job with the picture you chose. I feel that the devil appropriately depicts Lady Macbeth and the Angel is Macbeth's inner conscious.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good picture to show what Macbeth was going through. It also shows that Macbeth made the wrong decision by agreeing with the "devil". It is eventually what leads to his downfall. After he crossed the threshold and killed Duncan, he didn't have the option of going back and agreeing with the angel.
