Shakespeare uses the environments to great effect in Macbeth. Shakespear uses a lot of storm imagery during the opening act of the play to begin to set the mood, and as a method of foreshadowing. As the play begins, the reader is introduced to a dark and stormy scene, befitting the character of the three weird sisters. This setting also serves as a backdrop to the tail end of the bloody battle between Macbeth and the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth's meeting with the three weird sisters also takes place during gloomy weather, perhaps foreshadowing that the seemingly pleasant news that they bear about his future as king of Scotland is too good to be true.
