In the play, the readers see Macbeth go through all the stages of a hero's journey. In the opening act we see his ordinary world. Which is a at war, and is one of the greatest fighters. Then when he was walking he came across the three witches, which called him to his adventure. That was he will become king by his fate. Then we meet his mentor which happens to be his wife, Lady Macbeth. She convinces him to kill Duncan, and Banquo so he can rule. The crossing of the thresh hold was when he killed Duncan, at this time he had done the crime, and can not turn back. Throughout the acts Macbeth was being tested of his mental strength, and of his power. At the end of the playwe see the tragic death of Macbeth.
Steph- I like the picture you chose for this post. I think it shows MacBeth possibly in his ordinary world as a fighter. I also think that the way he is standing shows him towards the end of the play. From the way he is standing you can tell that he has a lot of confidence in himself and possibly some hubris.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Steph on the stages of the hero journey that she has so far. We also see later in the play who his enemies are which is another stage of his hero journey. At the end, Macduff proves to be the main enemy on Macbeth and he is the one man he came across that didn't come from a woman's womb.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Lady Macbeth being the mentor, normally the mentor is the person encouraging the protagonist to do good deeds, teaching them the ways of the light and all that jazz. It's an interesting twist to instead have the mentor corrupt the main character, and basically ruin their life. That guy in the picture looks REALLY surprised.
